Rebounds

**When playing basketball, one of the most important skills needed is knowing how to get rebounds. When you get rebounds that either means you gain possession of the ball, or if you got a offensive rebound you get another chance to make another shot. For example Dwight Howard is an important factor on his team because they are not a good shooting team, and they rely on Dwight to get the rebounds for second opportunity shots. Therefore if you are a beginner here are some tips on knowing how to be the next Dwight, Shaq, or even Paul Gasol. Well lets get started!

1. First tip in being a successful rebounder is to always think that the offensive team will miss the shot they took. Don't always assume your opponent will make their shots. For example even a great 3 point shooter like Ray Allen will miss shots on a rare occasions, so be ready to grab the rebound. If you think that you will always go for the ball, and the offensive team won't gain possession of it again. As soon as you get that down pat you are ready for the next tip.

2. So now you got to learn how to box out your player. You want to find your man and box him out with your hands or a slight push. If your offensive man is in front of you tap him on the opposite side of his/her body so they think you are going that way and fight your way to the other side.

3. You want to always look at the rim. If you keep eye contact with the basket/rim and the ball you will be able to get the rebound. Usually when a player shoots the ball, the ball will go on the opposite side of the rim from where they shot the ball.

4. Once you get the rebound keep the ball low and tightly in your hands. You want to use your pivot foot as an advantage to avoid the ball getting stolen.

5. Now you are ready to get some rebounds.
